As part of Charles-de-Gaulle international airport, in Paris, NGE used Paebbl's supplementary cementitious material in slipform concrete, to build a runway divider.

Customer context

NGE is a major French public works and construction company, building infrastructure. NGE counts 23 000 employees and operates in 19 countries.

NGE aims to be a global leader in low-carbon solutions.

The challenge

NGE's engineering teams were urged to reduce the carbon footprint of their constructions by 20 % to 30 %. It was an ambitious goal. NGE tested many solutions.

For the runway dividers that they build, they use a special type of concrete, known as slipform concrete. Slipform concrete is a mix with low workability, meaning it is stiff, dense, and difficult to spread.

NGE needed to find a low-carbon solution that would work with this specific application.

Our approach

NGE chose Paebbl because it is a supplementary material. Paebbl can be integrated into the mix, to both improve the performance and reduce the carbon footprint.

Paebbl reacted well with NGE's existing mix. NGE was able to replace up to 30%, for an embodied carbon reduction of 28%, but they are confident that they can go even further.

To NGE, working with Paebbl means that they do not need to break away from their existing mix. They can add Paebbl to the mix, in a way that they control and master.
